This piece is created out of the Crown Tuscan color produced by the Cambridge Glass Factory in Ohio. The factory was open from 1873 through 1958. The seashell line was introduced in 1935 and was very popular during the art deco period with items such as these nude stemmed compotes and goblets to shell shaped vases and soap dishes. In this piece I am featuring a nude figurine goddess compote and visually reference Botticelli’s painting The Birth of Venus.
A swan also makes an appearance which is a recurring symbol in my work for love. The goddess holds the swan as an offering.
