My show opens tomorrow and runs through May 15th at The Brunnier Art Museum in Ames, Iowa. The piece is large commission diptych I created for their permanent collection. The glass is flameworked cullet and antique figures from The Cambridge Glass Factory in the color “Crown Tuscan”. The piece is titled The Dreams of a Descendant of Sirenuse and refers to the mythology of the Greek sirens calling sailors to their untimely death on the rocky coast. Instead of calling for sailors in my piece they are calling back one of their own, the flying lady vase who is lost at sea. This vase was created in the late 1930’s.
